16 Best US Cities to Celebrate the Fourth of July
Nothing says summer in the USA like the Fourth of July! Some of my favorite childhood memories are the Independence Day bonfires I had with my friends, watching fireworks, and roasting marshmallows. Despite our differences in this country, our nation’s birthday brings us together to celebrate being American.
And who wouldn’t want to participate in delicious BBQs, firework displays lighting up the sky, big parades with marching bands, and everyone decked out in red, white, and blue? It’s like a giant party for the U.S., and everyone’s invited. Here are some of the best places in the country to enjoy an epic Fourth of July!
1. Boston, Massachusetts
Considering Massachusetts was one of the original 13 colonies of the United States of America, it’s no surprise that Boston brings the party when it comes to the Fourth of July. Boston celebrates Independence Day like no other, dedicating a whole week to festivities with Harborfest.
With parades, harbor cruises, historical tours, live music, and a chowder competition, it draws nearly 3 million visitors. Don’t miss the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on the Fourth, one of the longest-running fireworks displays in the U.S., culminating with the 1812 Overture and a stunning fireworks show over the Charles River.
2. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philadelphia is another city steeped in American history. If you love Boston’s Fourth of July bash, check out Philadelphia’s epic two-week Wawa Welcome America festival!
Enjoy free concerts, parades, museum visits, and block parties, all leading up to a huge fireworks show over the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You could even catch a free concert with big-name acts! Philly knows how to party!
3. Anchorage, Alaska
Anchorage throws a one-of-a-kind Fourth of July blowout that lasts all day long, thanks to the crazy, long summer days there. The festivities kick off with a community pancake breakfast.
Fireworks are a must on the Fourth, but in Anchorage, you gotta wait for the sun to set… around 11:30 pm! Between breakfast and fireworks, there’s a parade, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and a food festival overflowing with fresh seafood.

4. St. Louis, Missouri
There’s no shortage of impressive Independence Day celebrations in St. Louis! The America’s Birthday Parade marches right under the Gateway Arch, while smaller town parades like Ferguson’s Fourth of July Celebration have an endearing, community feel.
The Heritage & Freedom Fest has a carnival with rides, games, and live music, while the Kirkwood Freedom Festival has food trucks and live music to keep the energy high. 5. New York City, New York
Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks is America’s favorite. Since 1958, this annual event has entertained millions along the Hudson River, with over 75,000 fireworks launched from barges.
The 25-minute show features a stunning array of colors and shapes. Both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are open on the Fourth of July. There’s no better way to celebrate Independence Day than visiting one of the most iconic symbols of American freedom, right?

The highlight is a colorful parade featuring marching bands, veterans, and local heroes, with arts and crafts, food trucks, and live music adding to the party. And it all ends with a bang—a massive fireworks show over the water!
11. South Lake Tahoe, California
Imagine fireworks lighting up the sky over a crystal-clear turquoise lake surrounded by majestic mountains. Tahoe South goes beyond the ordinary with dog-friendly drone light shows—300 drones dancing across the night sky, creating imaginative shapes and colors.
