20 Hidden Gems Baby Boomers Love That Millennials Will Too
A lot of people think that baby boomers and millennials don’t have a lot in common. Baby boomers are between the ages of 57 and 75 and millennials are between the ages of 28 and 43.
Even with the age gap between the two, when it comes to traveling, there are places that baby boomers have been traveling to for decades that millennials have never even heard of! Here are 20 hidden gems that baby boomers love that millennials will too.
1. Tetiaroa, French Polynesia

If there’s one thing that baby boomers and millennials love, it’s relaxing on a white sand beach that has warm, crystal-clear water. The weather in Tetiaroa is warm year-round, even during the rainy season of December and January.
This tiny atoll consists of about 10 islands and only has one hotel called The Brando Resort. Onetahi, the main island, is 0.3 square miles and has an airstrip that you can fly into. The entire island’s coast is white sand beaches which makes it’s the perfect island getaway!
2. Vanuatu

Vanuatu is a tiny country of small islands that lies between Fiji and the Salomon Islands. The main island and capital of Vanuatu is Port Vila, which is where you’ll fly into.
This country is not really on anyone’s radar right now, so if you are looking for a place where you’ll be able to experience local culture and see some amazing sights and beaches, then this is the place for you!
3. New Zealand

For baby boomers, New Zealand might sound like an obvious place you need to visit, but New Zealand is on many millennials’ bucket lists as well (probably for a different reason). New Zealand was the filming location of Lord of the Rings, which is a favorite film of most millennials, and was filmed in over 150 locations all around New Zealand!
Baby boomers most likely already know about great spots like Milford Sound, Mt. Cook, and Abel Tasman National Park, whereas millennials probably only know about Hobbiton and Mount Ngauruhoe (aka Mount Doom). So whether you’re coming to New Zealand for a Lord of the Rings tour or a hiking/cultural adventure, New Zealand is a great place to visit!
4. Tahiti, French Polynesia

Tahiti is as close to heaven as we can get here on earth. With towering green mountains, colorful coral reefs, and incredible overwater bungalows, there’s sure to be something here for everyone!
Baby boomers will love the warm weather and water while millennials will love hiking tall volcanos and watching the surfers at Teahupoo surf the “heaviest wave in the world”.
5. Easter Island, Chile

This is one of the most remote places on earth. It’s technically a part of Chile but is 2,300 miles off the coast of Chile, with the closest inhabited island 1,619 miles away. Talk about island fever!
The thing that Easter Island is famous for is the ancient heads that cover the island. There are about 900 of them in total and it’s estimated that they’re from between 1000 BC and 1600 AD. These huge mysterious heads are thought to be some kind of ancestral remembrance that was made by the Polynesian people that used to inhabit the island.
6. Dingle Peninsula, Ireland

The Dingle Peninsula is one of the most incredible sights in Ireland. Boomers have been coming here for a while now, but millennials mostly stick to touristy spots like Dublin and Cork.
You can drive the entire peninsula in a couple of days and it will be one of the most incredible experiences of your life. Massive cliffs shoot out from the sea, green meadows for miles, and adorable little seaside villages.
7. Bulgaria

There’s so much to see and do here for a great price that budget-friendly boomers and millennials will love! If you come here in the winter, you need to go to Bansko, which is a cheap ski village with great runs and fantastic powder.
Then in the summer, you can go to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, and visit churches and see architecture in Greek, Roman, Ottoman, and Soviet styles (because these were all the countries that occupied Bulgaria).
8. Malta

Malta is a small European island country full of history and stunning beaches! It’s located just to the south of Sicily if that gives you an idea of how beautiful this place is.
Boomers love the miles of perfect beaches and tall cliffs that line the shore of the island. Millennials will love taking a boat tour around the island and snorkeling in some of the most beautiful, clear water on the planet!
9. Rodrigues, Mauritius

Rodrigues is an island off the east coast of Africa that’s part of the tiny island nation of Mauritius. There’s one tiny airport on the island and miles and miles of beaches that will take your breath away!
Some of the most popular things to do here are the Caverne Patate, the François Leguat Animal Reserve, and visiting the Cathédrale St Gabriel. Millennials will love taking kayaking tours, snorkeling from the beach, and walking for miles on the tiny outlying islands that surround Rodrigues.
10. Tanzania

Here is another country in Eastern Africa, only this one is located on the mainland. If you like safaris and sunbathing on the beach, you’ll love this amazing country!
For millennials, you can hike the tallest mountain in Africa, Killaminjaro! The hike is about 20 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 13,620, and tops out at 19,341 feet. Boomers can also do this hike because it’s usually split up into about 6-10 days, depending on the tour you choose.
11. Seychelles

Here is yet another small island with great weather year-round and incredible beaches (I think I’m starting to understand what boomers like). This island nation consists of about 100 islands and many incredible 5-star resorts. You can spend your days lounging on the beach and your nights in your luxury hotel room.
For Millennials who can’t afford this type of travel, just get to Seychelles and find a nice little motel close to a beach. The Seychelles have also been going viral on TikTok recently so if you’re a content creator you need to come here.
12. Morocco

Boomers have been going to Morocco for a while now, and now it’s millennials’ turn! Morocco is an incredible African country with a rich culture and beautiful architecture. Boomers love the privacy of Riads with their private pools and great food. For millennials, you can book a shared Riad for much cheaper, but this means that you’ll be sharing the indoor pool with other guests.
Morocco is also famous for the Atlas Mountain Range with the highest mountain reaching almost 14,000 feet! You can hike these mountains and go from mountain hut to mountain hut, enjoying the beauty and epic landscape that surrounds you.
13. Tokyo, Japan

As a millennial, I’m sure that Tokyo has been on your bucket list since you were a child. It’s home to anime, video games, claw machines, and so much more! For boomers, they go for the Japanese culture, scenery, and temples that dot the city.
Another thing that millennials will love to do here is drive literal Mario Carts around the city! You can dress as your favorite character and cruise around the city, taking in the sights while experiencing something you’ll never forget!
14. Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

This is a place I’ve only ever heard of but never thought to travel to, but it looks incredible! The boomers have definitely been gatekeeping this one. St. John’s is the capital city of this Canadian province which is a beautiful city (you’ve got to check out Jellybean Row) but there’s so much more to see.
For starters, there’s the Torngat Mountains National Park, which looks like something you’d see in Iceland. Then there’s Gros Morne National Park, which looks like the Grand Canyon, only green. You can also take a boat tour to see some 10,000-year-old icebergs that are just off the coast!
15. New Orleans, USA

Now, we head down to the USA to see what other cities the boomers have been hiding from us. First, we have New Orleans, an amazing city in Louisiana. It sits right on the Mississippi River and is known as the “Big Easy” because of its nightlife and party atmosphere.
Some must-see locations here are Jackson Square, The French Quarter, Bourbon Street, and so much more! If you come here during Mardi Gras, prepare for the party of your life! In 2025, it will be held on March 4th so book your tickets now!
16. Alaska, USA

Alaska is a no-brainer when it comes to travel. The boomers usually choose to see Alaska by cruise, but this will only give you a small portion of what there is to see in Alaska.
First, Fairbanks is a quaint little city in Northern Alaska where you can see the Northern Lights. Then there’s Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, a difficult place to get to but worth the trip!
Lastly, if you’re a real adventurer, you can try climbing Denali, the tallest mountain in the USA. It stands at 20,310 feet and is a difficult mountain to climb, but if you are a mountaineer and up for a challenge, then go for it!
17. Florida, USA

Here’s another place that is very popular with boomers and millennials alike. I mean, who doesn’t love hot weather and white-sand beaches year-round? If sitting and roasting on a beach all day is not your thing, you can visit Disney World or Universal Studios.
There are swamp tours you can go on, crocodiles you can find, and an infinite number of nightclubs. This makes Florida the perfect place for both millennials and boomers.
18. Patagonia, Chile

Patagonia is one of the most famous outdoor locations in the world. Boomers go here for the incredible scenery and great tours. Millennials will love hiking the thousands of miles of trails around the park and climbing some of the most iconic mountains.
Torres del Paine National Park is on the Chilean side of Patagonia and is the most popular attraction. Some of the best things to do in the National Park are going to the Mirador Base Las Torres, Cascada Rio Paine, and Salto Grande Lookout. If you do all of these things, your trip will be sure to be one you’ll never forget!
19. Australia

There’s so much to do and see in Australia. You can head to the outback, visit one of the thousands of perfect beaches, tour an amazing city, and see tons of wildlife. There is something here for everyone, so just think of your favorite travel activity and you can do it in Australia. Sydney is, of course, a must-visit when in Australia, but there are so many other things to do around the country.
You can visit the Great Barrier Reef before it disappears forever, you can go to the zoo that Steve Erwin used to work at, visit the most popular beach in Australia, Bondi Beach, or go to the outback and see if you can spot kangaroos or a koala bear. Whatever you end up doing, Australia will be sure to entertain you!
20. Antarctica

Getting to Antarctica can be just as much of an adventure as the continent itself. Most people get to Antarctica by taking a boat from the southernmost part of Chile, through the Drake Passage (one of the most dangerous water passages in the world), and then on a tour of Antarctica.
Most cruises will allow you to get off the ship and take a zodiac to land so you can set foot in the most desolate place on Earth. It seems like more and more millennials are starting to take cruises, so if you like cruising, add this to your bucket list.
What do you think?

Was there anywhere I missed? I’m a millennial, so boomers, let me know if there are any other places that you love that you think millennials would also love.
