6. Viento Fresco Waterfalls

Tucked away in the lush green forests of Guanacaste, Costa Rica lies a waterfalls paradise that is sure to take your breath away. Welcome to Viento Fresco waterfalls!

This hidden gem is located 11 km (7 miles) from the city of Tilaran, and it offers some of the most majestic waterfalls in the area. With its cool water, majestic rainbows, and beautiful pools, Viento Fresco waterfalls are sure to take your breath away!

The hike to the waterfalls is easy to moderate and you’ll pass by at least 400 steps (so get those butt muscles working out!). As soon as you reach the waterfalls, you’ll be greeted by a 102-foot (31 meters) water cascade tumbling into a nice pool.

If you keep walking, you’ll find the hidden waterfall at 66 feet (20 meters). At the top is a big boulder that looks like it’s about to get pushed off the edge by water pressure and below are shallow caves on each side that make it look like a spooky face or set of eyes. Talk about a water adventure!

But the best is yet to come. If you keep walking, you’ll find the Rainbow Waterfall, the third and tallest single drop on the property at 247 feet (75 meters). The water cascades through the mid-air in wispy sheets before landing on the rocks below, and sometimes the mist creates a beautiful rainbow.

And if that’s not enough water fun for you, there is also the Slide Waterfall, which is a 312 feet tall (95 meters) cascade with some shallow pools at the base. You’ll have to make a ten-minute walk downhill to reach it, but trust us, it’s totally worth it.

You’ll be able to explore four waterfalls as you hike up the river. They get bigger and more majestic as you go higher and higher, so the fourth one will be your favorite!
