Pirates of the Caribbean Zipline Roatan
Wondering what to do in Roatan, Honduras? Zip line with Pirates of the Caribbean Canopy!
If you are going to be in Roatan, Honduras for an extended period of time, or even just a day on your Caribbean Cruise and are asking your self “What is there to do in Roatan?” This is for you. I recommend that you zip line in Roatan! It is a ton of fun! I wasn’t convinced at first, but ultimately I loved it!

Planning to Zipline in Roatan
We were in Roatan, Honduras for 8 hours on a cruise ship port of call. We had 3 teenagers with us, so I was looking for something fun for them to do. I came across Pirates of the Caribbean zip line.
Initially, I moved past it because it seemed scary, but then I remembered the trip was supposed to be for the kids (mom guilt), so I asked, “Do you guys want to Zipline in Roatan?” … they all said “YES!”
Of course they wanted to do it..did I? What did I get myself into? I’m pretty chicken, so I began to panic. I was really excited about the rest of our day in Roatan, you can read about it here but I was honestly, very nervous about this.
As I began to read the website, the boys got more excited, and I freaked out even more. Pirates has 2 miles of zipline. The highest is 328 feet! The longest is 1980 feet! They use words like “breathtaking” “adrenaline” “zipping” oh gosh…. I don’t know I’m freaking out!

We get to the park, and of course, first thing we do is sign a liability waiver…not helping my nerves (although completely understandable). The boys are SO EXCITED! I must fake bravery.
They can spot weakness and will use it to mock me forever. I can do this. The workers start putting on our safety equipment. Ok… deep breath… its totally fine. This is fine. I had planned and pre paid for the “Extreme” zip, I forgot my teenagers can read.. and they see that there is an “EXTREMELY EXTREME” option. Of freaking course there is.
Sigh. Panic. Throw up in my mouth. “Of course, we can do that one.. sounds fun!” Parenting sucks. Is this how I die? Why did I suggest we Zipline in Roatan? What is the matter with me?

Ok.. here we go. The guys there were very nice, and tried to be reassuring to me, I think they figured out that I was the weak link. It starts to rain. “darn , we can’t go”. They quickly reassured us that YES! We most definitely CAN go, and rain makes it MORE EXTREME.
Cool. I love extreme (insert eye roll and more panic). They put us in the back of a truck and start driving up a muddy, slick dirt road to the top of the hill. Im pretty sure this is where I will die.
The ride was bumpy and slippery, and I’m freaking out! The boys are hooting, hollering, and having a blast already, and the guy riding back there with us is cracking up at my misery. Great, I love when they find teammates to gang up on me.
We get to the first platform, and I realize something… you have to literally have to walk off the edge of the platform. I was scared of the “flying” but it never dawned on me how you actually began to “fly”. It goes against every part of my inner survival instincts to WALK OFF THE EDGE OF A CLIFF!
I’m desperately trying to figure out how to get out of this when suddenly, I hear a scream of joy and “YAHOOO” I look up and one of the boys has a running start and plunges himself off the platform and into the air. Who raised these maniacs?
Shoot.. well now I HAVE to go because I can’t very well leave my children unattended. So our guide asked if I was ready. Nope, no, sir, I am not. Thanks for asking, though. He says to count to 3, gets to 2, and pushes me off.

I’m doing it.. wait, do I actually LIKE this?
I panic. I hold on tight, eyes closed. 1 second later… wait.. this is so. much. fun. Oh my gosh! Im ziplining! This is FUN! After that first line, it got more and more fun. I even tried to be “Cool” and put my arms out and not hold on.
Im such a child. I was proud of myself. I will admit that walking off into thin air, was weird every time. but the soaring, oh the soaring, was magic. It was beautiful above the canopy. You could see the trees, the ocean, feel the air, absolutely exhilarating.

Oh! I almost forgot the best part! Someone zips on the lines in front of you and takes super rad pictures! They put them all on a disk for you at the end. We got home and realized the disc was blank and I was so sad.
I emailed them and later that day they sent me all the photos again! We also had the go pro with us but someone was having so much fun, they forgot to turn it on! So, next time well get video!
I feel like I conquered my fears by zip-lining in Roatan
We all had a blast! Im so glad we went and did this. Im sold. I will do this again. If you find your self in Roatan, either on a cruise, or just for a visit, you should do this. It takes zero skill, zero athletic ability, and little to zero bravery. Zipling is such a fun family activity you will all remember for years to come. You can do it. You should do it! Fly, my friends, fly!

I may not have done it if the kids hadn’t already taken off in front of me!
I probably would have chickened out! Looks like an amazing experience.
Walking into thin air is the part that bothers me. I don’t know if I could do it. Good for you for going through with it.
I think I would have felt the same way as you! I am glad you tried it!
Oh cool! What an experience! I probably would have been scared too…I’m glad you enjoyed it
Great post. Sounds like your family had a great time!
I’ve never done ziplining before, but it looks fun, especially in Honduras! My husband and daughter love all things pirate, so they would be so into the theming. I like how you had to face your fears a little bit before you “flew.” looks like you had a great time!
You will feel pretty brave and awesome after!
I would be freaking out. I’m not afraid of heights and love rollercoasters…but I’ve never ziplined. But after reading your experience of overcoming the fear, you’ve inspired me to try…maybe even the extremely extreme one!
I struggle with the zipline but I am getting better! They are a great adventure for many!
This was my exact quote before doing it!!
I have never been zip lining. I am so afraid of heights. But, this looks so cool I might have to suck it up!
It’s good to have someone that forces us outside our comfort zone!
