I’ve enjoyed visiting Glacier in the Summer and again in the Winter. Both provide a beautiful experience with stunning scenery. But when is the best time of year to get married at Glacier? Read on to find out!
Spring Weddings in Glacier
May and June are stunning months to elope in Glacier National Park. The weather is mild, the wildflowers are in bloom, and the melting glaciers create rushing waterfalls throughout the park.
Plus, with fewer crowds than in the summer months, you’ll be able to enjoy more privacy on your special day.
Summer Weddings in Glacier
July and August are the busiest months at Glacier, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t ideal for getting hitched. The warmer weather is perfect for hiking to a scenic overlook for your ceremony or enjoying a leisurely paddle down one of the park’s glacial lakes.
Just be sure to make your wedding reservations early, as Glacier National Park is a popular destination for weddings and elopements alike.
Autumn Weddings in Glacier
If you’re looking for truly dramatic scenery, plan to elope in Glacier during the fall months of September and October. The turning leaves create a sea of color throughout the park, and the animals are beginning to prepare for winter.

Getting a Permit
You will need a permit to get married at Glacier National Park. This applies to every wedding and elopement, whether large or small.
You can apply for a permit up to one year before your requested date but no less than one month (20 business days) before that date.
The permit process has very specific regulations, and it is important to follow them exactly. It’s also important to know that changes are generally not allowed once a permit has been issued.
Remember to include precise locations and times on your permit request form. ‘Various,’ ‘Two Medicine,’ or similar responses are not acceptable for location, nor is ‘sunrise’ or ‘afternoon’ sufficient for time frames. Be as specific as possible.
If you are using a photographer, include their contact information.
Anything that isn’t a part of your person but you might want to bring with you goes under “equipment.” This can include camera equipment, chairs, tables, musical instruments, speakers, etc.
Be sure to include everyone in your final guest and vehicle count, including you, your fiancé, any officiants or photographers, and, of course, all attendees.
The fee for the Special Permit to get married in Glacier National Park is $125.00. Remember that you will still need to pay the park entrance fee on the day of your wedding.

It’s important to understand that having a permit doesn’t guarantee you will have the location for yourself. Other park visitors will still be allowed to be in that area.

Take some time to explore the park and find a spot that feels special to you. When you’ve found the perfect location, it’s time to start thinking about logistics.
Now it’s time to start thinking about logistics like timing, transportation, and accommodations.
You’ll also need to think about how you’ll get there—are you going to hike, or drive?
If you’re planning on hiking to your ceremony spot, you’ll want to give yourself enough time to do so before it gets dark.
Finally, you’ll need to decide where you’re going to stay. There are plenty of camping options in Glacier National Park, or you can stay in one of the nearby towns, like West Glacier (the closest), St Mary (on the East Side), or my favorite place, White Fish.
The lodge at Whitefish Lake is a romantic and gorgeous resort that sits right on the lake. The hot tub overlooks the lake, which is stunning.
You can arrange rose petals on the bed or other romantic touches when you book.
Of course, I love it in the summer, but even more so when it is frozen over in the winter.
