10 Pet-Friendly Ski Resorts For Winter Fun With Your Dog
As an avid skier who also considers her dog to be her firstborn child, there are not many places that I don’t bring my Labrador Retriever to; this includes ski resorts.
My dog, Clover, has been to more ski resorts than I can count. Below, I’ve highlighted the best pet-friendly ski resorts based on the ones I’ve personally brought her to and ones that I hope to bring her to soon.
Keystone, Colorado
Keystone stands out as one of the most pet-friendly ski resorts I’ve visited. A big reason for this is the excellent parking setup. The parking lots are conveniently close to the slopes, spacious, and perfect for accommodating skiers with their dogs. It’s common to see skiers strolling with their pups in the parking area during breakfast or lunch breaks throughout the ski day.
In addition to its pet-friendly vibe in the parking area, Keystone takes it up a notch with the Keystone Lodge and Spa. This lodge offers dog-friendly accommodations, with all pet-friendly rooms located on the first floor for easy access when taking your furry friend outside.
Aspen, Colorado
Next on the list is Aspen. Several times, I’ve brought my pup to Aspen and always appreciate how dog-friendly the area is. What stands out is how welcoming Aspen is to dogs year-round. Whether hiking in the fall, summer, or spring or enjoying the town or ski slopes during the winter, pups love it all.
Aspen is also great for dogs thanks to its many pet-friendly hotels, like The Little Nell. To top it off, Aspen Snowmass and Aspen Mountain allow dogs on the gondola at no extra charge. It’s truly one of the most dog-friendly ski resorts, with pups feeling right at home.
Park City, Utah
Another destination I’ve visited with my dog is Park City, Utah. There are plenty of reasons why Park City is such an excellent spot for pups. One of the first things that comes to mind is the two base areas, filled with streets lined with shops, restaurants, and accommodations, making it easy to take your dog for a stroll through the area.
Another highlight is how pet-friendly both the restaurants and hotels are. For accommodations, I recommend the Hyatt Place Park City, and for dining, you can’t go wrong with Flanagan’s On Main, which offers a dog-friendly outdoor patio.
Telluride, Colorado
Telluride is another fantastic ski resort and town to visit with your furry friend. I’ve been there with my pup, and we had a wonderful time exploring the area, enjoying the views, and taking advantage of the many outdoor seating options so our dog could join us for meals.
In addition to the dog-friendly outdoor dining and walkable downtown, Telluride offers plenty of activities year-round for pups, including hiking, playing in the snow, and even riding the gondola with you. As one of the most beautiful ski resorts I’ve visited, Telluride’s dog-friendly atmosphere makes the experience even more special.
Stowe, Vermont
Next on the list is Stowe, one of my favorite East Coast ski destinations. While the skiing is, of course, incredible, the charming village area is another standout feature. Pups will love strolling through the village with you as you explore the shops, restaurants, and accommodations.
There are plenty of dog-friendly stores, restaurants, and hotels, with my personal favorite being The Lodge at Spruce Peak. Stowe isn’t just a fantastic winter destination for you and your pup; it’s also a tremendous year-round spot for hiking, walking, and various other adventures.
Sun Valley, Idaho
Sun Valley is one of those big-name ski resorts that often flies under the radar. Located in central Idaho, it’s known for its upscale vibe. While the upscale atmosphere might make you think it’s not ideal for pets, don’t be fooled—it’s actually a fantastic place to bring your dog.
The area offers plenty of parks, trails, lakes, and beaches that welcome pups and a wide variety of pet-friendly accommodations. Overall, it’s a wonderful destination for you and your furry companion.
Big Sky, Montana
I had an amazing time visiting the entire state of Montana with our Labrador Retriever. Known for its stunning, wide-open landscapes, Montana was a perfect spot for our pup to explore.
If you’re planning to bring your dog on a ski trip to Montana, Big Sky, the largest ski resort in the state, is a must-visit. With plenty of trails and areas to walk with your pet and several pet-friendly accommodations, it’s an easy and enjoyable destination for you and your pet.
Lake Placid, New York
Lake Placid is a charming mountain town in the Adirondacks and a fantastic destination to visit. In the warmer months, you can enjoy the lake, hike during the shoulder seasons, and visit the incredible Whiteface Mountain in the winter. This ski town is perfect for visiting with a dog, thanks to the variety of pet-friendly activities available.
One of the best spots is Main Street, where you can walk, shop, and dine with your pup. Lake Placid is also an excellent place for dogs that love to swim, weather permitting. Plus, there are plenty of great dog-friendly hotels in the area.
Mammoth Lakes, California
Mammoth is another fantastic destination for bringing your dog on a ski trip. Like many other spots on this list, Mammoth Lakes is a great year-round getaway. In the summer, you can enjoy lake water activities, while shoulder seasons offer great hiking and biking. In winter, the skiing is exceptional.
In addition, Mammoth has a wide variety of restaurants with outdoor seating and plenty of pet-friendly hotels. It’s a perfect choice for anyone planning a California ski trip with their furry companion!
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
What’s not to love about Jackson Hole? There’s so much to adore with two amazing ski resorts, a charming downtown filled with boutiques, bars, and Western-style hotels, plus its proximity to two breathtaking national parks. But what really elevates this fantastic town is how dog-friendly it is.
There are plenty of outdoor dining areas that welcome pups, numerous dog-friendly hotels, and a wide range of activities to enjoy with your furry friend, including road trips, hiking, playing in the snow, camping, and more.
