14 TV Shows With Amazing Episodes Filmed in Exotic Locations

1. The White Lotus

This show on Max has quickly become one of the most popular and highly rated shows in the world. It’s a dark comedy about a hotel chain called The White Lotus and follows the stories of the hotel’s employees and guests. It features actors like Jennifer Coolidge, Sydney Sweeney, Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, and many more.

The filming location for the first season occurred at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. Then, the second season at Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Sicily, Italy. The third season won’t come out until 2025, but is being filmed at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui in Thailand. This show has some of the best acting and best filming locations, which is the perfect combo for an excellent show!

2. Bridgerton

Bridgerton is a Netflix show that has taken the world by storm. It’s a sex-charged period piece that occurs in the Regency era of Britain (1795-1837) and is about the Bridgerton family. This family consists of eight siblings looking for love in London’s high society.

The main filming locations for the first season of Bridgerton are the city of Bath, Rangers House in London, and the Wilton House in Salisbury. Then in season 2, we have Wrotham Park in London, Hampton Court Palace in Molesey, and Syon House in Brentford.

Lastly, in season three, Claydon House in Buckinghamshire, Squerryes Court in Sevenoaks, and Grimsthorpe Castle in Lincolnshire. If you love London and its architecture, you’ll love this show.

3. Lost

This is one of the most famous TV shows of all time. From 2004 to 2010, Americans were glued to their TVs every Thursday night, just waiting to know the next spin the show would take. It’s about a plane that crashes and lands on a deserted island where weird things happen to the passengers of the flight. It reveals the secrets they are hiding as the show progresses.

Lost was filmed almost entirely on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. This island paradise in the Pacific Ocean is one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever see. If you’ve seen the original Jurassic Park movie, then you’ll recognize some of the island’s features, like its crystal clear water, towering green mountains, and dense jungles.

4. International House Hunters

One of my personal favorite reality TV shows is International House Hunters. My wife and I used one of the famous realtors from the show (Adrian Leeds) to find our apartment in Nice, France. We were offered a spot on the show but politely declined.

If you’ve never seen the show before, it’s about Americans looking to move abroad. The realtors from the country that they’re moving to pick three options that best fit the needs of the individual or family. Then, they choose the one they want to live in at the end of the episode. Episodes feature cities worldwide in locations like France, Kenya, New Zealand, Ecuador, and many more!

5. Survivor

Survivor is a show that has been going on since 2000 and has happened in locations all around the globe. If you’ve never seen Survivor, you’ve lived under a rock. It’s a reality TV show about a group of people sent to a secluded location and given just the bare necessities to survive while competing in challenges and facing elimination.

Survivor’s first season was shot on the island of Pulau Tiga, Malaysia, and then changed location for the first 18 seasons. Then, it changed location every other season until season 32. It has occurred on the Mamanuca Islands of Fiji from season 32 to the current season (season 46). If you want to see incredible places and one of the most captivating reality TV series ever, try Survivor.

6. Love Island

I would say that Love Island is this list’s most typical reality TV show. It’s about a group of beautiful men and women who are put in a beautiful house in a beautiful location and forced to pair up or be eliminated from the house. It’s highly dramatic, sexual, and stupid, making great TV.

The two main Love Island franchises are the British version (the better version) and the American version, and both take place in stunning locations. The UK version mainly takes place on the islands of Mallorca, Spain, and Fiji, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and California.

There are also 24 other international versions of the show, all with their amazing filming locations, so you’ll never run out of episodes to watch.

7. 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way

I could binge this show for days! This spin-off of the reality TV show 90 Day Fiance, shows amazing locations all around the world. On the original 90 Day Fiance, people from abroad who meet their partner online move to America on a 90-day visa that allows them to live in America until their wedding day. On 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way, Americans move to where the people they meet online are living.

Some of the best locations on the show are India, Brazil, Columbia, Morocco, UAE, Egypt, the Dominican Republic, and lots more! The filming they do in these locations does a great job of showing the actual living conditions of these countries while mixing in beautiful footage of the area. There’s so much drama on this show that will keep you locked in season after season.

8. Below Deck

This show and its spin-offs are filmed in some of the most incredible locations you’ll ever see! There’s Below Deck, Below Deck: Mediterranean, Below Deck: Sailing Yacht, Below Deck: Down Under, and Below Deck: Adventure. On the original Below Deck, 11 seasons take place around the world. This reality TV show is about a crew on a super yacht and the millionaire guests they have to cater to.

Some of the best filming locations on Below Deck are Phuket, Thailand, Tahiti, St. Maarten, The Bahamas, and lots more. My favorite spin-off of Below Deck is Below Deck: Mediterranean (and yes, it’s because I live in the South of France).

Some of their best filming locations for the Mediterranean are Greece, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, and more. Hundreds of hours of this show will keep you entertained while falling in love with the crew and the places they are sailing.

9. Hannibal

This is one of my favorite shows of all time. Hannibal is about the serial killer Hannibal Lecter and how he assists a criminal profiler in finding the person who has been on a killing spree around Baltimore, Maryland (spoiler alert: it’s Hannibal). This show was mostly shot in Toronto, Canada, but in season three, they go to Florence, Italy, and it’s gorgeous!

The cinematography of this show and the sets make you feel as though you are actually in the locations they say they are in. For example, Hannibal’s house in the show is just an average Toronto house, but the way they use filters and lighting to make it look so creepy is incredible.

Also, the show’s finale takes place at a house on a cliff high above the ocean, but it’s just a little house in the woods outside of Toronto. The CGI and use of real locations in the B-roll make this show feel so real, even though it is just being filmed on a set.

10. An Idiot Abroad

If you like British comedy, this show is for you. It follows Karl Pilkington, a man from London who has never left the UK on his journey around the world. He literally hates every second that he’s traveling, and it’s hilarious.

He goes to some of the most remote places on earth, some of the most densely populated places, and some of the most beautiful locations, all while whining about how much he wishes he was home.

Some of the best locations on the show were the Great Wall of China, the Great Pyramid of Giza, Vanuatu, Mongolia, Thailand, Uganda, and tons more. I’m pretty sure he is the most well-traveled person who hates traveling ever to live.

11. Emily In Paris

Now, this show gets a lot of flak for being cheesy, having bad acting, and having bad storylines, but one thing it gets right is the filming locations. Emily In Paris is a show about Emily Cooper (played by Lily Collins), a marketing executive for a big company in Paris. It basically plays out like an early 2000s rom-com with the typical love triangles, cliche boss babe dialogue, and lots of pent-up sexual tension.

The show mainly takes place in the streets of Paris but also shows places like Monaco, Versailles, Tours, and even the French Riviera. If you are a Francophile (like me) then you’ll love this show just for the filming locations alone.

12. Game of Thrones

This is one of the most successful TV shows of all time. It’s a fantasy show about the fight to take control of the “Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.” The show has some of the best filming locations of any television series, with locations like Old Town Dubrovnik, Croatia, Fort Manoel, Malta, Gaztelugatxe, Spain, and many more.

This show is like if Lord of the Rings was filmed in locations around the world and not just in New Zealand. If you like fantasy and adding new places to your bucket list, add this show to your watchlist.

13. Alone

This is another fantastic reality TV show. It’s like Bear Grylls, but the people on this show aren’t secretly staying in hotels during filming. The show starts with 10 contestants being dropped off miles apart and left alone to see who can survive the longest with very limited supplies for the chance to win a million dollars.

The show has been filmed in Canada, Argentina, and Mongolia. Most of the newer seasons are filmed in various parts of Canada, but they all look incredible. They are right on lakes with big mountain backdrops, and they look like a great place to camp—until winter when the contestants are all almost dying.

14. Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father

This is another British comedy about a guy who hates traveling but is “forced” to go against his will. Jack Whitehall is a British comedian who takes his dad to some of the most beautiful locations in the world. They go to Southeast Asia, Australia, Eastern Europe, the US, UK, and his dad hates all of them. There’s just something about a British person complaining about doing things that is literally peak comedy.

Unfortunately, Michael Whitehall is now too old to travel around the world, but I wish that Jack would continue the show alone. Maybe even partner with Karl Pilkington from An Idiot Abroad?? Now, that would be a fantastic show!
