Cruise Tours are offered by several cruise lines including Norweigan, Holland America, Princess, and Celebrity. A Cruise tour is where you take a cruise that only goes one way.
For example, you would start in Seattle or Vancouver BC, and then get off the ship in Alaska where you would take a train or bus to lodging near the park and then stay a few days. This requires you to have a flight back home rather than taking the ship back. It is a fantastic way to enjoy the sights and small ports of a cruise, but still, be able to extend your trip and explore more of Alaska.

The Glacier in the photo above is the Margerie glacier, one of the oldest tidewater glaciers. Margerie Glacier is 1 mile wide, 250 feet above the water, and 100 feet below. It is 21 miles long! Photos can not do Glacier Bay National Park justice, you absolutely HAVE to see it in person!

If you plan to visit more than one of the US National Parks in a year, its a good idea to buy the “America the Beautiful” pass. It’s $80 for the year and gets you into every National Park, monument, seaside, and memorial, as well as National Forests. You can buy it online from NPS or at the gate of the parks. Also, if you have a 4th grader, or are military you can get into NPS sites for free too!
The US National Parks have been put in place to preserve something. Whether that is cultural, historical, ecological, or biological we need to do our part to help keep those things safe. Always practice good sense and respect while visiting the 63 US National Parks.
- Never litter
- Never take pets in areas that aren’t designated for them
- Never go off trail (you can permanently damage millions of organisms)
- Always bring the 10 essentials when you head out to hike, and let someone know where you are
- Leave no Trace
- Do not carve your name into trees, benches, etc.
- Do not approach, feed, or disturb wildlife. The National Parks are their homes.
- Do not take things from the parks (sand, rocks, shells, plaques etc)
If everyone works together to follow the rules and enjoys the US National Parks the way they were meant to be enjoyed, they will be around for many generations to enjoy!
